Death Rally — Hot Lap

Released 2025

Any stretch of road becomes a timed race track — lap timing, leaderboards and race logging across Knoxx County.

Once you've survived the harshest winters and fixed that vehicle to perfection — what else do you do? Death Rally — Hot Lap is a Project Zomboid multiplayer mod that turns any stretch of road into a timed race track. It watches for a vehicle crossing a start/finish line, times the lap with checkpoint splits, and records it — driver, vehicle, condition, fuel, and the weather at the time.

The record book

An in-game panel shows each driver their recent laps and the server's all-time fastest times per track — and the timing is server-authoritative, so a hot lap is a hot lap, not a claim.

The Hot Laps panel — every lap with its splits, vehicle, condition, fuel, and the weather it was set in.

Every lap is logged with its real-world timestamp, in-game date and time, driver, lap number, sector splits, total time, vehicle model, condition and fuel, plus a weather snapshot — to per-track and per-driver logs. Drivers are recorded by character name: no Steam IDs, no IP addresses.

From circuits to the whole county

Tracks are simple to define — a start/finish line, checkpoints, a name — so a course can be a purpose-built circuit, a dirt oval, a forest rally stage… or the whole map.
